Learn how to make secondhand shopping work for you & find value in the unwanted.
How do you find value in secondhand clothing, someone else's discards, their trash? Not only are you shopping sustainably, conserving resources, reducing waste, but you are also saving a ton of money! But still, there are many people that just won't go there.
I know secondhand shopping may not be for everyone. It can be time-consuming, tedious, and even laborious. You may even find dirty, damaged or even smelly clothes. Some people just can’t get over the fact that you’re wearing someone else’s clothes (never bothered me), or essentially someone else’s discards- their trash.
I share my 100% USED outfit posts on Instagram most days of the week (follow my stories for the best stuff).
Well, if you’ve followed me at all, then you know that none of the above bothers me. I actually thrive off all of it- the hunt, finding the treasures amidst the trash, and finding beauty in what others have decided was no longer beautiful. I take great pride in doing what’s best for the environment and extending the lifecycle of the garments that already exist. It is the circular economy, and I believe it can save the planet. I know that might sound a bit dramatic, but it’s true.
The planet can not keep up with the resources that the fashion industry demands of it. There is a finite amount- meaning when they run out, they aren’t coming back. This is really serious shit. And although I am proud of my efforts - it feels good to do good- this is really about preserving the planet for the next generation.
I want future generations to benefit from all the freedom and luxuries that the planet has allowed me to enjoy in this lifetime. For right now, I am doing my part to save the world with clothes.
My next project is here to help you learn how to make secondhand shopping work for you. If you’re like me and you love fashion but you also care about the environment, secondhand shopping is the best thing you can do for the planet to slow down the destructive cycle fast fashion is having on our planet. It is also the best way to shop sustainably without sacrificing style (and saving quite a few dollars too!).
If you’re feeling uninspired, frustrated, or overwhelmed with secondhand shopping, I’m going to share how you can learn to make it fun, manageable and a great success! I’m also going to share my favorite sustainable styling tips to help you create brand new looks out of the clothing you already own, so you can maximize your current wardrobe, and essentially do more with less.
For the first time ever I am hosting a morning of Sustainable Shopping with Laura Madden in partnership with Goodwill AZ at one of their Phoenix/ Scottsdale locations (TBD). If you’re interested in turning your shopping obsession into something more sustainable, I hope you’ll join me on Thursday, 6/27 at 9am for my group shopping event!
This event is limited to ten individuals who will get the opportunity to shop with me and learn about some of my favorite things pertaining to shopping secondhand successfully, such as my tips & tricks on finding eco-friendly fabrics and timeless pieces that will live in your closet for the long haul.
In addition, you will also receive a chance to win a $20 Goodwill gift card to use on your shopping extravaganza. To be entered in the random drawing and register for this shopping event click here: https://gwl-az.org/LauraMeetUp
Your secondhand shopping experience will support you with the art of shopping secondhand, dressing with ease to alleviate stress, and creating a more conscious wardrobe. Includes a follow up phone consult following the event to share styling ideas, suggestions and troubleshooting.
I hope you will join me! Together we will learn to elevate the secondhand shopping experience, hunt for timeless fashions that you will love for years to come and learn how best to manage your wardrobe once you get all your new finds home!
