WEAR YOUR VALUES

Updated: Jan 5, 2019

Take the pledge to contribute to a more responsible fashion industry + a healthier planet in partnership with REMAKE + PERI.

If you love fashion and you love our planet it's time to join the sustainable fashion movement. I’m wearing my values by only shopping sustainable fashion, which includes the stunning caftan by sustainable brand PERI shown here. I invite you to take the shop sustainably for 30 days pledge to contribute to a more responsible planet. Are you in?

This past November I pledged to buy Nothing New for the entire month in partnership with Goodwill AZ. It was my own personal Nothing New November challenge that a friend of mine actually came up with (thank you Fauna!) because she was so impressed by how much of what I own is secondhand- from my wardrobe to my home decor. Even my art, most of which I created myself, has been made using secondhand items.

Needless to say, I made it the whole month buying nothing new (see here for details). I live this life anyways. And I love it. I feel good about my purchases knowing I’m contributing to the circular economy, reducing waste, and decreasing the demand on the fashion industry to produce faster and cheaper. It is a lifestyle. It is what I consider a sustainable lifestyle.

No question, I will continue buying ‘nothing new’ as much as I can help it. Of course when it comes to things like undergarments, I’m not running to the Goodwill, but otherwise, I always consider the option of shopping a secondhand option if possible. And it just so happens that I’m never disappointed. I always find the best stuff! No need to head to mall (thankfully).

I know secondhand is not for everyone. I 100% understand that. So for the month of December I’d like to introduce you to  another partnership that I’m very proud of. I was recently named a Global Ambassador for Remake, a non-profit based in San Francisco (more to come on that later).

“Because fast fashion is out. Bargain prices disempower women, exploit our natural resources and contribute to limitless waste.” REMAKE

Remake has launched a campaign to remind consumers to think before they buy this holiday season. Brilliant right!? I know we are all so busy during this season that it can be challenging to slow down and stay mindful of the purchases we are making, and why we are making them. We are all feeling so much pressure to just get it all done! And quickly!

Unfortunately the amount of waste during the holiday season skyrockets- more ‘stuff’ entering the landfills and our waterways. This breaks my heart to know the environment is suffering even more, the more we are spending.

Will you pledge to shop sustainably for 30 days?

If you couldn’t quite wrap your head around the secondhand challenge, how about this one!? To get you started on the right foot I’m sharing a garment from one of my favorite Made in the USA sustainable brands PERI.

I want to make sure you realize that when you shop sustainably you are in no way sacrificing style- or anything for that matter. Actually you are gaining- self-respect, empowerment, knowledge and pride that your purchases are contributing to a healthier and happier planet. Stay tuned- I’ve got more to come on this one!

You might recognize PERI from blogs featured earlier this year {HERE}. PERI is based in Los Angeles, CA and only produces sustainably. They are extremely careful in selecting the fabrics used in their lines, often using deadstock leftovers from other fashion brands. The dress shown here is the Canyon Caftan in noir black, made of Cupro, using low impact and natural dyeing methods to create a unique, one of a kind shibori detail.

PERI is offering a generous discount of 20% off their entire site, expiring 12/24/18.

Just use code: LM20

There are loads of additional sustainable shopping resources available, with many of the brands I endorse found here on my blog, including PERI. Please refer to REMAKE for a large list of retailers that meet their strict sustainability criteria. You won't be disappointed.

Make sure you follow my Instagram {HERE} and get signed up for email updates {HERE} for tips on how you can wear your values, use fashion for good + shop to create a better world. Happy shopping!

Get involved. Become part of the movement for a healthier, more sustainable fashion world. I believe that together we can change the face of fashion.

Wear what you love and wear what empowers you. Also consider where your clothes were made and who made them. Your purchase may empower the person who made them (or not).

Shop wisely. Every purchase is a vote. Make yours count.

*The items featured on this blog are what I consider sustainable fashion and/or are items I have owned for a very long time- which I would then consider a sustainable fashion choice simply for the longevity of it.

Thank you to PERI for collaborating with me on this project, and to REMAKE for your continued advocacy work. All opinions and styling are my own.
